FACTS ABOUT INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

1. On December 11, 2014, the United Nations adopted a resolution started by India, declaring June 21 as ‘International Day of Yoga’ .

2. It is also for the first time that such an initiative has been proposed and implemented by any country in the UN body in less than 90 days.

3. More than 177 countries supported International Day of Yoga whereas 175 countries are co-sponsoring the resolution, which is the highest number of
co-sponsor in any United National General Assembly resolutions of this kind.

4. International Yoga Day is being celebrated on June 21st, which is the Summer Solstice, the longest day in many parts of the world with special
significance.

5. The Logo of the International Day of Yoga reflects harmony and peace for humanity, which is the essence of Yoga.

6 Nude Yoga is practiced in many parts of the world. People practice nude yoga wherein they do not wear clothes while doing the yogasanas. It is believed that it deepens their yoga practice and teaches acceptance and love for their bodies, along with building intimate bonds with people in their yoga community.

7. ‘Doga’ is yoga for Dogs. Doga was started by Suzi Teitelman in New York in the year 2002. Owners practice Doga to secure a bond of friendship with their dogs. While doing Doga, dogs are used as props.

8. Yoga is not just about Asana. Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyhara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi are the eight branches of yoga. “Asana ” refers to just the third branch of yoga which signifies the postures. Many people think that Asana itself is yoga.

9 Yoga at Statue of Unity: On the yoga day 2019, over 1,000 Hindu seers, mahants and religious leaders performed yoga at the premises of 182-metre Statue of Unity in Gujarat.

WHATS SPECIAL ABOUT YOGA DAY 2020?

1.The theme for the event this year will be ‘Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family’.

2. The Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi will join the nation on the day digitally.

3. Interested citizens will join online session.Due to choronavirus Yoga at public places will be forbidden.

4. The Ministry of AYUSH and ICCR have jointly organised a Video-blogging contest on this occasion.
