All India Human Rights Council has opened a ‘Men’s cell’ exclusively for the betterment of men’s lives. Internationally famed writer and social philanthropist has been appointed as the Working President of this cell. Sri Tuhin Bhattacharjee and Dr. Birupaksha Biswas has been appointed President and Vice President respectively. Padmini Dutta Sharma feels ‘Human Rights is about human dignity and justice. Every human irrespective of their gender has the right to speak up and prove their point. Every man and woman has the right to go to the court of law and seek justice.’
In the recent past men have been subjected to tremendous torture and ridicule by their female counterparts; wife, live in partner or girlfriend. Many sly women have randomly misused 498A to extract monetary and other benefits from their spouse, partners and boyfriends.These women have bullied, blackmailed, lied, concocted sympathetic stories with impunity to frame false charges against men. Sharma said, ‘there should be no reason to believe that men are immune to pain and hurt, and they don’t bleed inside. Crocodile tears and cock and bull stories of conniving women are no longer going to prevail. My sons and brothers, my uncles and friends must get justice.’ Padmini reiterated in no uncertain terms, ‘there’s no denying the fact that women from every class, race and religion have been subjected to inhuman subjugation and abuse for ages and they have dealt with severest blows to their body and mind perilously. Females, irrespective of their age, have borne the brunt of domination and irresponsible behavior, not to
mention the physical and mental abuse for the sake of their family and loved ones. It is one hundred percent true that women have been burnt alive, raped, sold, tortured and brutally murdered but these incidents certainly do not justify similar torments meted out to innocent men.’
Padmini continued, ‘chauvinism and ego has prevented men from coming forward and moving the court but it’s high time they raised their voice against the inhuman torture and subjugation that goes on behind closed doors. It’s hard to see henpecked husbands wagging their tail before their cantankerous wives. Unable to bear the horrendous mental trauma and stigma, many respectable men are compelled to commit suicide. It seems absolutely devastating when the lose their reputation, job and custody of their children, sometimes of their only child and yet they are compelled to pay up for their wive’s and child’s maintenance. While these women make merry at their husband’s expense by going around with different men, involved in different relationships.’ Sharma continued,’we have to stop this money making business where huge amounts are extracted by implicating men. Women with self respect should decline to accept alimony, and seek monetary favors. If they can’t fend for themselves and their child, what’s the point of seeking separation? Many women have a planned agenda well ahead of their marriage and when they feel they are not able to carry out their mischiefs, they take recourse to the treacherous route of maligning their men. Men are mostly charged with illicit relationships, polygamy, and extramarital affairs to cover for their own follies and misdemeanors. Sometimes they demand a huge sum, along with their spouse’s moveable and immoveable property. They get random supporters from all over the society, where pity rules above logic, and deception treads over rationale.’
Dutta Sharma concluded by saying ‘the main objective of AIHRC men’s cell is to counter the misuse of 498 A and ensure that men are no longer deprived of their rights – the most primary one being the right to spend time with their children and see them whenever they desire.’
