The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has taken a suo motu congnisance of the Hathras incident and has sought response from the local administration by October 12. The court has also summoned the family members of the Dalit girl who was allegedly gang-raped on the night of September 14 and succumbed to the injuries later, on September 29 in Delhi.
The Bench of Justices Jaspreet Singh and Rajan Roy has issued notices to the State of UP through additional chief secretary (Home), the director general of police, UP,Lucknow, additional director general of police, law and order, UP, Lucknow, the district magistrate, Hathras, the superintendent of police, Hathras.
“The incidents which took place after the death of the victim on 29.09.2020 leading up to her cremation, as alleged, have shocked our conscience. therefore, we are taking suo moto cognizance of the same,” the court said,
