Doctor Madhu Verma appointed as member NTCA

Dr. Madhur Verma, who is a globally renowned Environmental Economist from city of Bhopal has been appointed as a member of National Tiger Conservation Authority under the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change GoI.

Dr. Verma, is known to have done pioneering work for 16 tiger reserves of India by valuing their contribution of ecosystem services, which are the benefits to the economy but not accounted for in our national incme. She demonstrated that these benefits not only accrue to local but to regional and global economy as well and proved that these tiger reserves are the Natural Capital of the country where a rupee invested for their conservation leads to multiple times benefits from these reserves. She worked as Professor for 25 at the Indian Institute of Forest Management at Bhopal and known for her exemplary work of valuing the contribution of Bhoj wetlands to the economy of Bhopal city. She is working as Senior Economic Advisor with Iora Ecological Solutions, an environmental advisory organization in New Delhi.

As per the recent notification issued by NTCA for the committee constituted under section 38 L of the wildlife protection act of India 1972; the other members appointed to the committee are Shri SS Srivastava, retired PCCF Odisha, Shri Rahul Bhatnagar retired CCF Rajasthan Forest Department, Shri Ravi Singh, Secretary Genera,l WWF India; Dr. Roop Narayan Singh, consultant pathologist from Jabalpur; Dr. Pradeep Malik ,retired Senior Professor, Wildlife Institute of India; Shri W, Longhwala, former IGF, NTCA; Dr. HS Negi, former APCCF (wildlife) Madhya Pradesh forest department.

This important committee steering the conservation of tiger reserves under Project Tiger in India, is chaired by the Hon’ble Minister of MoEFCC and the Minister of State for EFCC as its Vice Chairman. Its is only on 1st April that the Project Tiger has completed its 50 glorious years.
